Bossa for Linux 2.6

Kernels: Bossa requires that the kernel configuration option CONFIG_SMP be false. There is a menu for turning on Bossa and adjusting its features. Otherwise, any configuration options can be used. In particular, devfs is no longer required. Compiling the kernel with make install will install the cb.opt, bossa_install, trace, and manager in the directory specified at the top of the Makefile in the root directory of the kernel. If you are running udev, add KERNEL="bossa*", NAME="misc/%k", SYMLINK="%k" to your udev rules file, found somewhere under /etc/udev.
Previous versions of Bossa supported specializations of certain events such as blocking according to the service generating the event. This feature is not currently supported for Linux 2.6.
- Bossa/Linux 2.6.11: This kernel was obtained from Ubuntu. A previous version was tested under Gentoo. Last updated August 9, 2005.
Policies:
- Linux6.bossa: The policy compiled with the kernel. Compiling this policy using cb.opt -os Linux2.6 Linux6.bossa is useful to obtain the associated stub files. Compiling this policy produces Linux.c, not Linux6.c. Last updated August 2, 2005.
- EDF6.bossa: An EDF scheduler for use with Linux 2.6. This EDF policy accepts information about the period in terms of the number of periods required per second. The period is then maintained at a rate of 1/10000 of a jiffie, and rounded to the nearest jiffie on each iteration. This policy contains code in comments that illustrates the calling of a function report defined by the parent scheduler. Last updated August 9, 2005.
- Fixed_priority6.bossa: A fixed priority virtual scheduler for use with Linux 2.6. This policy contains code in comments that illustrates the definition of some functions, including report, exported to child schedulers. Last updated August 9, 2005.
MPlayer-1.0pre7, modified for use with Bossa and Linux 2.6. To test: mplayer -policy EDF6 -wcet {wcet} {file}. On Ubuntu, it may be useful to configure the player with --enable-esd and --disable-xv. The official version of MPlayer may be found here. Last updated August 2, 2005.
